According to a report by the market research firm Forward Intelligence on China’s job market, China’s average monthly wage in the fourth quarter of last year increased by 3.9% year-on-year to RMB 8,096 (US$1,027).
The report said that the IT industry remained the most attractive industry last year, and the education and training industry replaced the Internet and e-commerce industries to show the most pressing needs of employees.
Due to the increasing popularity of social networks in China, the demand for new media management staff increased by 10.8 times between 2013 and 2017, the fastest growing among all industries.
In addition, graduates have shown increasing expectations for new “first-line” cities such as Chengdu, Hangzhou and Wuhan. The southwestern city of Chengdu surpassed Guangzhou to become the fourth most attractive destination for graduates in 2019.
The report attributed these changes to significant economic growth and high housing and start-up subsidies for new members on the “first-line” list.
Policymakers have taken a series of measures to ensure a stable job market, including employer insurance premium rebates, government subsidies for skills training, and greater tax cuts. There are also favorable policies for people who build their own businesses.
