Officials said that the enthusiasm of the first China Import Expo last year prompted organizers to extend the exhibition for 10 days this year after the official agenda.
On Friday, Shang Yuying, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, announced that it would count down to 200 days for this year’s CIIE. The fair is scheduled to be held in Shanghai from November 5th to 10th.
It is said that the daily limit for visitors will be set at 50,000. Organizers may also create an online booking system for this year’s extended exhibit.
The extension is one of the many new elements of China Import Expo this year. According to Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the China Import Expo Bureau, first of all, the company’s exhibition area will increase from 270,000 square meters last year to 300,000 square meters.
Medical devices and healthcare companies will have more space this year to reserve an area for elderly care and rehabilitation providers.
Sun said that as of Friday, about 70% of Fortune 500 mandatory drug companies have signed up to participate in this year’s China Import Expo. British pharmaceutical companies GSK and Siemens Medical Group will make their debut, with about 20 of the world’s top 30 medical device manufacturers agreeing to participate. He said that there is very little exhibition space in the department.
Sun said it has added a quality lifestyle showcase that includes maternal and baby products as well as high-end consumer products. He said that French luxury goods giant LVMH signed this year’s China Import Expo in late March, and more companies are discussing the existence of high-end fields.
At the opening ceremony of the first China Import Expo last year, President Xi Jinping said that as the Chinese people continue to improve their lives, China may import more than 30 trillion US dollars worth of goods and 10 trillion US dollars of services in the next 15 years.
More than 3,600 companies from 151 countries and regions participated in last year’s China Import Expo, with orders and transactions valued at $57.83 billion.
As of early April, more than 1,800 companies from 77 countries and regions have applied to the second CIIE, and the other half has signed a contract with the China Import Expo Bureau. As many as 180 Fortune 500 companies have signed contracts.
